Christmas at Skansen is a whole month of events and celebrations – from the opening up of the first Christmas market until the fireworks at New Year´s Eve

Christmas is a very special time at Skansen. Join us in the traditional celebrations from the first of Advent, the last weekend of November, to the twelfth day of Christmas in January. There has been a Christmas Market at Skansen since 1903, and this year is no exception. Stands selling traditional sausages, cheeses, mustards, honey, marzipan goodies, breads and cakes and biscuits will tempt you in and the aroma of hot steaming Glogg will warm you on these cold winters days. Among the handicrafts you will find hand-knitted mittens, jumpers and hats and there are also demonstrations of crafts and live music, all this makes for a wonderful festive atmosphere. From young to old everyone is encouraged to participate in games and dancing around the Christmas tree. Skansen is located on the island Djurgården in central Stockholm.

Skansen is the world’s oldest open-air museum and zoo, set on a 75 acre site, which showcases the whole of Sweden before the industrial era, with houses, farms and shops to explore, its is truly a wonderful experience for all the family.  Skansen was opened on 11 October 1891 by Artur Hazelius. Since 1897, Skansen has been served by the Skansens Bergbana, a funicular railway on the northwest side of the Skansen hill.
