The festive market in Wiesbaden, the state capital of Hesse, is called the Sternschnuppen-Markt or the Shooting Star Market and it can be easily reached from the station by foot.

The colours of the market are dedicated to the Wiesbaden City Arms – Blue and Gold – and these colours are used in the stalls and booths which sell an extensive range of festive goods. There are Christmas decorations, jewelry, handicrafts, nativity figures, candles, lanterns and straw stars, wooden toys, knitwear, ceramics and leather goods.

There are wonderful culinary delights on offer too which include Glühwein, hot roasted chestnuts,Gingerbread and waffles. There are bratwurst and chips and various snacks. For the children there is a Christmas carousel and a little train.

In the centre of the market is the nativity scene next to the 20 metre high Christmas tree. The life-sized wooden figures come from the well-known “Herrgottschnitzer Albert Herrmann of Bremthal”. On several days before Christmas, you can also watch the artist at his work on the nativity figures.
