‘Advent in the City’ begins with the lighting of a candle at the beginning of Advent. Dubrovnik’s Christmas fair will take place in the most beautiful street in Dubrovnik, Stradun. It is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm and is located in the historical area of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Here you will find a range of traditional Croatian handicrafts and art as well as a selection of festive food and drink, traditional Croatian folk art and see some unique and beautiful Christmas gifts. There will be everything from candles to toys to Christmas decorations to ceramics to glassware and jewelry hand-crafted by local artists.
Whilst browsing the Market indulge in some sweet holiday treats such as mulled wine, Christmas cookies, bruštulani mjenduli (candied almonds) and other traditional Croatian delicacies such as hrostule, which are deep fried biscuits, and kontonjata, which is quince cheese.
There are also Carollers singing festive songs, dance groups, children’s choirs and musical performances.
Dubrovnik will bring in the New Year 2020 with a spectacular music programme which will begin in the early hours of December 31st, New Year’s Eve. The New Year’s program includes a diverse, entertaining three-day program, in which everyone will find something interesting. The New Year will begin with the traditional New Year’s Day 10 km race, and a special treat will be a concert of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, paired with oysters and champagne, beginning on New Year’s Day at noon.
