Linz Weinachtsmarkt

As the days get shorter, Linz takes on an even more radiant appearance. The scent of Christmas markets and the cake shops with their Gingerbread and “Linzer Torte”, the lights of the city’s silhouette, with its mix of the modern and the historical, and the temptations of shopping at Linzer City shorten the wait ahead of Christmas.

A time of reflection: Slowing down the pace of day-to-day life, taking time for inner reflection and releasing fresh energies Are you looking to de-stress during the hectic pre-Christmas period? Enjoy the reflective peacefulness and the chance to slow things down in any of our numerous churches, or equally at our authentic Christmas markets, mercifully free from piped music.

Christkindlmarkt at the Main Square
Date: 17. November – 24. December 2018, daily from 10 am–8 pm
The baroque main square in Linz is the backdrop for the “Christkindlmarkt” with its appealing mix of local crafts, warm punch and delicious Gingerbread .

Wintermarkt on the Pfarrplatz
The redesigned Pfarrplatz square behind the city’s parish church in Linz is once again home to craftsmen, artists and farmers offering their local and home-made products.

Christmas markets
A stroll around the stalls, sampling the products, buying beautiful Christmas gifts, being tempted by the delicious smell of the sausages barbecuing over charcoal – a visit to one of the many Linz Christmas markets heightens pleasure of the run-in to Christmas!

Christmas market in the Linzer Volksgarten

Date : 17. November – 24. December 2018, daily from 9 am–7 pm, Sundays/Holidays 10 am–7 pm
The fairy-tale worlds in the Linzer Volksgarten are a delight and not just for its younger visitors. You will also find a rich variety of Christmas gift ideas and culinary delights on sale there.
Tip: Performances by musical groups, brass band ensembles, choirs, with a daily-changing programme on the stages at the Christkindlmarkt in the Main Square and in the Volksgarten (from 5 pm)

Kekserlmarkt in the Stadtbräu Josef

Farmers from Upper Austria offering traditional produce from the farm bakery in the inner courtyard of the Stadtbräu Josef various types of gingerbread, Stollen, fruit bread, honeyed biscuits, Mostkekse (biscuits made with fruit juice), Bauernkrapfen (dough pastries), hot fruit juice, Glühwein, home-made liqueurs, craft items, such as Advent wreaths, dried flower arrangements, hand-painted glass and watercolours and bee-keeping produce.

Advent on the Danube: Slowing down, letting someone else take the strain, enjoying and treating yourself to culinary delights. Boat trips on the Danube Even in winter, boats set off from Linz on trips along the Danube Valley. The early dusk provides for a wholly special spectacle: the artistic backdrop of the lights of the Linz bridges and house fronts along the Danube Cultural Mile sparkles in the water’s reflection.

“Prosit” – Cheers for New Years Eve 2018

On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, corks will be popping in Linz! Whether in the elegant setting of a ball event or at the relaxed and cheerful New Year’s Party on the Main Square, whether dancing on a Danube boat tour or enjoying the classical music of a New Year’s concert – the changing of the year has many facets in Linz.

Austrian Christmas Markets or Weihnachtsmarkt,have now become popular and are a welcome and familiar sight in many of the cities, towns and villages throughout Europe during the season of Advent.
Whether visiting a local Christmas Market or taking a Christmas Market Tour, the wonderful festive atmosphere will be sure to lift your spirits and bring the Christmas cheer a little closer.
Wrap up warm and wander along the rows of pretty wooden chalets taking in the rich, warming aromas associated with Christmas such as hot roast chestnuts, grilled bratwurst sausages, crepes or pancakes, Stollen, hot doughnuts, gingerbreads and Gluhwein or Mulled wines or ciders. You can sample the marzipan figures, chocolate covered fruits or one of the many festive delicacies on offer from around the world. There are all kinds of Christmas gifts and decorations, especially traditional things such as tree decorations, wood carvings, crib figures, traditional toys, candles, hand-knitted jumpers, lambskin slippers and glassware, you will be able to find that special little something that will be a unique gift for someone to treasure. Children will be excited to meet with Santa Claus and maybe, just maybe!! there will be a little present for them too!
