Six Christmas markets, more than 200 stalls, and a 14-metre-high crystal tree – if you want to experience Advent in Tyrol, there’s a wide choice at Innsbruck Christmas in the Mountains, from the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) all the way up to the Hungerburg 300 metres above the city.
Enjoy Innsbruck Christmas traditions at the Advent concerts and nativity scene exhibitions and experience traditional customs such as the Christmas and Saint Nicholas procession or the Krampus run in the capital of the Alps.
The Christmas Angels of Innsbruck
Set off on an exciting journey through the alleyways of the Old Town. On a walk through the “enchanted forest” you will encounter 28 life-size characters from fairy tales and legends, who all look on from the historical facades, modern light installations and the four impressive giants of Riesengasse (giants’ alley). The daily fairy tale performances at the Theatre Wagon whisk you away to the world of the Brothers Grimm, delighting both young and the young at heart.

Innsbruck’s traditional Christmas Market is set before the Golden Roof and surrounded by medieval house facades. On a stroll through the market with over 70 stalls, you will find Christmas tree decorations, arts and crafts and a few curiosities,don’t miss the life-size crib figures and the beautifully decorated trees. A visit to the viewing platform over the hut rooftops or the enchanting “Fairy Tale and Giants‘ Alley” is an absolute must. Then round off your evening under the magnificent Christmas tree in front of the Golden Roof, with the traditional sounds of the tower trumpeters filling the crisp air each day and a mug of Glühwein warming your hands and immerse yourself in the cosy, warm atmosphere under the huge, brightly lit Christmas tree .

Innsbruck’s main shopping street will once again dazzle visitors with lights, glass and crystal and offer a range of international Christmas products. 30 stalls, modern Christmas lighting designs and an avenue of sparkling trees, not forgetting the enormous mountain crystal, dominate the scene in the heart of the city alongside numerous shops in the festively decorated shopping street. It’s clear to see the world comes to Innsbruck! Also open after New Year’s Eve until 6th January 2019.

Right by the River Inn you will find the third biggest Christmas market in Innsbruck. Marktplatz square is an experience for the whole family. The giant carousel, petting zoo, puppet theatre, story time and much more will make your children’s eyes sparkle. There will also be a living nativity scene this year for the first time. The 60 Christmass market stalls offering wonderful gift ideas and tasty treats form the heart of this popular family market.

On the new Hungerburgbahn funicular, getting to the “highest” Christmas Market is an experience in itself. Once at the top, not only are you guaranteed breathtaking views of Innsbruck, the small-but-special market also offers an array of culinary delights and a wide range of Christmas souvenirs. From here you can also hop aboard the newly installed panoramic cable car and continue on up to the Seegrube and even further up to the Hafelekar at 2,256m.
