From the middle of November through to Christmas, the towns of Bregenz, Dornbirn, Feldkirch, Bludenz and Hohenems, as well as the surrounding villages in the Vorarlberg region, host enchantingl Nicolaus and Christmas markets. When the smell of punch and warm gingerbread fills the air, numerous lights illuminate the cities and festive songs resound – then it’s Christmas time again. It is a tradition in Vorarlberg to visit at least one of the many Advent markets. Each market is different:
Bregenzer Weihnachtszauber – 15.11. – 23.12.2019
Arts and crafts and Christmas magic
In Bregenz, there are several Advent markets around the Christmas season. The largest is the Christmas market at Kornmarktplatz and Leutbühl. 40 Christmas huts are open daily from 15 November to 23 December. Highlights include the small ice skating rink, the children’s carousel, pony rides and the living crib. At the opening weekend, the Nepomukkapelle will also be offering handicrafts from the region.
Small but nice
Rich in tradition the market held in Bregenz Upper Town will be held from the 8th to the 23rd December (Saturdays and Sundays). The ambience is unique: the market takes place in the medieval district in front of the backdrop of the landmark of the state capital – the Martinsturm. Also two smaller events will find their place in the Bregenz Christmas calendar: The Adventklappen Adventmarktle and the Herz-Jesu Adventmärktle.
Bludenz Christkindlmarkt – awaiting 2019 dates
The redesigned Bludenzer Christkindlemarkt is held from 29th November to 24th December. Surrounding the culinary and creative offers there is a colorful program with live music, children’s café, pony rides and much more
Dornbirn Christkindlmarkt – awaiting 2019 dates
The Dornbirn Christmas Market is all about its small visitors. From November 23rd to December 23rd there is a craft and bakery in the parish park, a carousel and a railway on the Europapassage and a skating rink at the market square. The grown-ups can look forward to many regional delicacies and a wide selection of arts and crafts and Christmas decorations.
Feldkirch Weihnachtsmarkt –29.11.2019 – 24.12.2019
Atmospheric things are happening in Feldkirch. From 30 November to 24 December, the medieval old town is the venue for the Christmas market. There will be traditional Advent singing , and visitors will find countless stalls to purchase special gifts.
Hohenems Christkindlemarkt – 01.12.2019
On 1st December, Schlossplatz Hohenems will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland by the Christkindlemarkt. A visit from St. Nicholas, horse-drawn carriage rides and a nostalgic carousel ensure that the children’s eyes are radiant. On 40 stands there are jewelry, brandies, Christmas bakery, fur products and much more. Traditional Advent in the old town. Open : 13:00 – 19:00

The Schwarzenberg Advent features concerts, readings, exhibitions and lantern walks in the program.
Christmas markets in the regions
The Lech Zürs am Arlberg region has several small markets: in Zug on 01.12.2018 – 15.12.2019 ( 9. 12. – 13. 12. 2020 ), in Zürs on ….. December and in Lech am Arlberg from 13.12.2019 – 16.12.2019 .

German Christmas Markets or Weihnachtsmarkt,have now become popular and are a welcome and familiar sight in many of the cities, towns and villages throughout Europe during the season of Advent.
