Hot Buttered Spirits

Adding butter to drinks may seem a little odd but it is a practice that has been used for hundreds of years. By making a spiced butter beforehand it will bring an extra quality to a hot, warming drink. For these buttered spirits you can use Whisky, Brandy or Rum all are equally delicious.

To make the spiced butter you will need 250 g butter, 250 g brown sugar,1 teaspoon allspice, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, a pinch of ground clove and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix all together well to combine. Wrap in clingfilm and keep in the fridge until needed. This will keep for two weeks in the fridge.

To make Buttered Spirits: Warm an Irish coffee glass and place 50 ml Whisky, Rum or Brandy in the glass along with 150 ml boiling water. Float a tablespoon of spiced butter on top and add a cinnamon stick to use as a stirrer.
