Ses Salines d’Eivissa i Formentera Nature Park management department wish to inform the need to protect and preserve one of the most known and visited Formentera areas: the pound of the Espalmador island. This pound is a very singular natural spot, ideal for resting, nesting and reproduction of aquatic birds, which are highly sensitive to the changes caused by human presence, especially in summer.

This fact provokes that the above said birds arrives to the pond, in the time, are themselves forced to move out to other areas. Because of this, the Nature Park has limited and the perimeter of this area to avoid visitors to trespassing it to bathe in the mud. This prohibition is formulated in the law (132/2005, on December 23, approval of master plan for use and management of Ses Salines d’Eivissa I Formentera nature park). On the other hand, the Nature Park has availed an access delimited by ropes that allow visitors to walk from the beach to the pond, so they can enjoy the sights without spoiling the dune system that surrounds the area.

BATHING AND USING THE SLUDGES IS STRICTLY BANNED BY THE LAW (more so as there is no sanitary guarantee of the quality of the mud).
