Outdoor Sporting Activities in Greece
Safari in Greece
Greece is a country full of old beauty with its Ancient ruins and culture and what better way to see it all than driving. Not just any driving but Safari driving in an open top Jeep. Obviously Greece doesn’t have lions or giraffes however what it does have is idyllic settings, ancient roman ruins, unspoilt beaches, and that’s just to begin with. Explore the small Greek towns and villages at a leisurely pace, taking time out at small cafes to sample local cuisine and see the real wealth of culture Greece has to over. The Greek mountains give amazing opportunities for off road, or dirt track driving as sometimes that is what they call roads, however if you don’t feel safe or brave enough to explore on your own then there are companies throughout Greece, especially on the islands of Crete Corfu and Rhodes who will drive you around in open top jeeps and take you to the highest peaks, the windiest roads and the quietest beaches. Be sure to carry with you sunglasses, sun tan lotion, hats, swimming wear as you dont want to burn and may find an idyllic water cove that you just have to dive in!
Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is a sport in which participants climb up or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the summit of a formation or the endpoint of a pre-defined route without falling. Rock climbing competitions have objectives of completing the route in the quickest possible time or the farthest along an ever increasingly harder route. Rock climbing is similar to scrambling (another activity involving the scaling of hills and similar formations), but climbing is generally differentiated because of the use of hands to support the climber’s weight as well as to provide balance. Rock climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport, one that often tests a climber’s strength, endurance, agility and balance along with his mental control. It can be a dangerous sport and knowledge of proper climbing techniques and usage of specialized climbing equipment is crucial for the safe completion of routes. Because of the wide range and variety of rock formations around the world, rock climbing has been separated into several different styles and sub-disciplines. While not an Olympic event, rock climbing is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as a sport.

Cycling and the EuroVelo
Cycling or Bicycling as it is less known is a form of transport, recreation and sport which has had a significant resurgence in recent years due to rising fuel costs, traffic congestion as well as a means of keeping fit. Depending on the kind of cycling you wish to do, there is a bike suitable to your needs. From mountain bikes, Tourers, Road Bikes to racing bikes, there is a cycle to fit all.
In areas in which cycling is popular and encouraged, cycle-parking facilities using bicycle stands, lockable mini-garages, and patrolled cycle parks are used in order to reduce theft. Local governments promote cycling by permitting bicycles to be carried on public transport or by providing external attachment devices on public transport vehicles. Conversely, an absence of secure cycle-parking is a recurring complaint by cyclists from cities with low modal share of cycling.
The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) is coordinating the development of a network of high-quality cycling routes that connect the whole continent. The routes can be used by long-distance cycle tourists, as well as by local people making daily journeys. EuroVelo currently comprises of 14 routes and it is envisaged that the network will be substantially complete by 2020
