Founded in 1961 and rebuilt in 1991, the former Museum of the Automobile Sarthe, yet attached to the 24 Hours circuit, did not rely enough on the original link closely links the city of Le Mans in the automotive world, to know the legendary race of Le Mans 24 Hours.
Refocused on the origins and focus on a dominant key, the new Museum of the 24 Hours, open since April 2009, features a completely redesigned set design, which invites visitors to discover the history of 24 Hours and the evolution of the automobile, in a sequenced course attractive, in a playful and original.
Spread over 4000 m², situated at the foot of the circuit, the Museum’s permanent exhibition of the 24 Hours highlights more than 100 exceptional cars, many collectibles, dozens of films and archival photographs, a atmosphere composed of unique designs and scenes reconstructed. The course is organized around six major sequences that lead the visitor to meet the heroes of the 24 Hour race and the origins of a tradition of local automotive industry, tracing the evolution of the car at the XX th century.
