DIVING – Popularity in diving in Croatia has exploded in the last 10 years, although it has been available on the Croatian coast since 1950s.There are diving clubs and centres to be found on nearly every Croatian island. There are wrecks, coral reefs, caves and endless schools of fish to be explored. The best of the diving tends to be in deep water. The shallowest water is around the Istrian coast,at about 50m but goes deeper the further south you go.The deepest water is around Jabuka Island where the water is as deep as 130m.Before setting out you will need to obtain a permit to dive legally. This costs 100HRK and is available from diving centres. If you plan to dive in the Kornati National Park or the Mljet National Park and a number of other areas you will also need a special permit ,the cost of this is also 100HRK and this, along with the paperwork can be handled by the dive club.It is advisable to wear a dive suit all year round as the water below surface drops in temperature quickly even when it is hot up above.Important: Don’t forget to organise your medical insurance before you go!
