Weiz is a small town in the eastern part of Styria, Austria. Its partner cities are Grodzisk Mazowiecki in Poland, Offenburg in Germany and Ajka in Hungary. The next big city is Graz, the local capital. The city of Weiz has a long-standing history with the first settlers arriving in Roman times. Weiz was first documented in 1188 and went on to become a district capital in 1850 and achieved city status in 1932. The founding of ELIN here in the 20th century led to Weiz becoming a centre of the electronics industry with products being supplied from here across the world. The friendly town with 9,300 inhabitants is now a strong economic centre undergoing innovative and dynamic development.
The old town, centred around the Tabor Church, offers a glimpse back at the town’s recent and distant history, as does the Baroque pilgrimage church. On the other hand, the art house promises a more contemporary look. The diverse range of restaurants and busy programme of festivals and events mean there is no shortage of enjoyment here.
The dripstone caves nearby are an exciting adventure. And luminous light shows (not just at Christmas time!) are the order of the day all year round in Weiz, the city full of energy. The region around Weiz, at the heart of the hilly Styrian landscape, is characterised by its fascinating landscapes. Sport and leisure enthusiasts can experience the region along the many footpaths along the Raabklamm gorge, thenature experiences trail, the apple trail, the woodland educational trail or theBärenschützklamm gorge. Oases of relaxation and recuperation for anyone seeking rest or fun and fitness for all the family!
