Linz lies on the second longest river in Europe. Even the Celts and the Romans already appreciated the geographical location. And the city is still defined by the river today.
Danube River Cruise
The cultural city of Linz ~ Danube is an ideal starting point for a cruise. In addition to liner cruises, sightseeing and event tours are also offered.
From twilight to midnight, from Brucknerhaus to the Linz Castle, the bank of the Danube is transformed every evening into a sea of lights. The art project “Lichtblicke” (“Bright Spots”) brightly accentuates the characteristic buildings and bridges on the Danube for night owls.
The Brucknerhaus was built according to plans by the Finnish architect Heikki Siren and ceremoniously opened by Herbert von Karajan and the Vienna Philharmonic in 1974.
Beach volleyball has been one of the most popular new types of sport in Linz for some years now. More and more enthusiastic devotees are found especially among the youthful population playing this ball game barefoot in the sand. Balls fly across 31 beach volleyball courts in Linz, one of the most attractive of which is located directly on the left bank of the Danube near the railway bridge.
Dedicated skaters roll, glide and jump over half pipes, trick boxes, quarter-pipes, spin ramps and rails as they practice the skills of their challenging hobby. In addition to the skater park near the railway bridge, which was built according to skaters’ plans, there are also eight more skater parks in other areas of Linz.
