Great Falls, Montana

Resting on the high plains along Montana’s Rocky Mountain Front Range, Great Falls is located at the confluence of the Missouri and Sun Rivers. The convenient central location of Great Falls, Montana creates the ideal gateway for your Genuine Montana experience.

Striking out from Great Falls in almost any direction will yield some of the most breathtaking venues in North America. With an easy two-hour drive from Great Falls, hikers and sightseers can explore Glacier National Park, with the largest concentration of remaining glaciers in the lower 48 states. From Glacier, head north to enjoy the majesty of Glacier’s Canadian sibling, Waterton Lakes National Park. Travel along Glacier’s decongested east side offers scenic views of its shining peaks as they rise out of the plains. The drive from Great Falls to Glacier runs alongside the historic footsteps of Lewis and Clark, passing several marked campsites and other historic points along their expedition. Marking one of the most difficult legs on their journey, portaging the falls of the Missouri, Great Falls is home to the National Forest Service’s largest Lewis and Clark exhibitions in the west at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.

Little more than an hour from the Great Falls Airport, wilderness enthusiasts can explore one of the most complete wilderness ecosystems in the world in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. “The Bob” encompasses 1.5 million acres of untracked mountains, rivers, and alpine lakes that are home to such iconic North American species as the grizzly bear, gray wolf, mountain goats, big horn sheep, moose, and reclusive wolverines.

Regardless of your adventure, Great Falls is the starting point for a Genuine Montana experience. Our hometown feel combined with our laid-back Montana roots produces what could be described as a cowboy version of Mayberry. The family-owned restaurants that dominate our dining scene feature delicious Montana beef, the local ranchers’ handy-work. Roaming the shops and galleries of downtown Great Falls, visitors are sure to note our distinctly western heritage. Considered by many to be the birthplace of western art, Great Falls is home to the Charles M. Russell Museum. The museum contains a vast collection of western art, including the world’s largest collection of work by Mr. Russell, a long-time Great Falls resident.
