Liverpool is well-known for its ability to shop and shoppers here are spoilt for choice between the new city centre shopping areas, from boutique arcades to bohemian streets and farmers markets. The new “Liverpool One” is right in the heart of the city which is home to more than 160 famous high street names. The “Metquarter” presents more fashion and beauty outlets and the unique “Cavern Walks” is home to the Ultra Fashion shops. At Christmas the city centre is filled with traditional wooden chalets as the Christmas Market presents goods from all over the world.
Liverpool One, Paradise Street, opened in 2008, offers three levels of shopping and entertainment in a gleaming , shiny shopping complex in the heart of the city. With 1.65 million sq ft housing 160 shops, more than 20 bars and restaurants, a 14 screen cinema and the 5 acre Chavasse Park, it will keep even the most enthusiastic shopper busy all day long.At Liverpool One you will find all the fashion labels from high street stores to all the best known, and loved, names. For the kids there is ‘Build-A-Bear’ and the ‘Disney’ store. Weekdays shops are open until 8pm. A 3,000 secure car park is next to the shopping centre and a walkway leads straight into the shops.
Chavasse Park has been completely landscaped to give a wonderful oasis in the heart of the bustling city. There are breathtaking views across the waterfront and the Albert Dock complex. Set into the well-tended lawns there is a stunning piece of glass and concrete architecture showing the inner workings of Liverpool One. During the summer, part of the park has been transformed into a wonderful beach, complete with sand, water, deckchairs and waterfront beach huts selling buckets and spades and candy floss! and even a small amusement park. Coming up to Christmas the same area becomes a winter wonderland, wooden chalets selling hot mulled wine and sizzling sausages, Christmas themed rides and an ice rink.
Situated off Whitechapel, and just a stroll away from Liverpool One , is the Metquarter, one of Liverpool’s newest, stylish shopping malls and is home to roughly 40 large designer stores and services including Coast, Diesel, Firetrap, Miss Sixty, Molton Brown, Timberland, Whistles to name a few. From fashion to beauty, the Metquarter houses select outlets, and there is also something for the men too – from Gieves & Hawkes’ smart gentlemen’s tailoring to Timberland, Tommy Hilfiger and shirts emporium T. M. Lewin. Grab a coffee at illy or Costa coffee or do lunch at Café Rouge. Metquarter is the third largest shopping centre in the city, behindLiverpool One and St. John’s Shopping Centre, but ahead of the boutique arcade; Cavern Walks. Metquarter has been called the ‘Bond Street of Liverpool’
Cavern Walks, situated on the famous Matthew Street in the heart of the Cavern Quarter, is the place to head for if you are looking for something special. As well as Vivienne Westwood, Cricket, Drome and Kids Cavern, you can also find the original door to the legendary Cavern Club. The men don’t need to feel left out either with the likes of Cricket, Soley Shoes, and Weaver’s Door all stocking a great selection of menswear from authentic heritage to occasion wear and tailored suits. For the little ones who like to look stylish too there are designer childrens boutiques Kids Cavern and Kids Cavern Shoes carrying labels for new borns right through to 16 year olds. But the Cavern Walks shopping experience isn’t just about the clothes and jewellery. Another ‘must-do’ is Bold Street, running down from the ‘bombed out church’ St.Luke’s to the main shopping area. Over half of Bold Street is pedestrianised and here you will find bridal wear shops, world food shops, furniture shops, fashion shops, a hat shop, evening wear, artists and crafts shops, religious shops and even a ‘Waterstones’ book shop. Alongside Liverpool ONE, the Metquarter and Cavern Walks, Liverpool’s Bold Street adds an extra, friendly alternative to the whole Liverpool shopping experience.
Clayton Square Shopping Centre is situated close to Liverpool Lime Street and Liverpool Central railway stations. It is the city’s fourth largest shopping centre behind Liverpool One, St. John’s Shopping Centre and Metquarter. Clayton Square sees tough competition from the likes of Liverpool One, St.Johns, Metquarter, Church Street, Lord Street and Bold Street. In April 2010, Swedish hardware store Clas Ohlson opened its sixth UK store in Clayton Square occupying the former premises of Zavvi
St John’s Shopping Centre is the largest covered shopping centre in the city of Liverpool, located in the heart of the city since 1969 and boasting over 100 retailers. The precinct is also home to St John’s Market which has a history dating back to 1822, although the current market was opened to the public by the Queen in April 1971
When you shop at a farmers market you can be sure that the person selling you fruit, vegetables and meat is the person who has grown or reared it. All traders in the market must come from a 30 mile radius, so you are supporting your local community as well as buying fresh first class produce.
