Twycross Zoo
Twycross Zoo is set in 80 acres in the countryside of Leicestershire close to the border with Warwickshire and houses the largest collection of species of monkeys and apes in the world, it is known as “Twycross Zoo – The World Primate Centre”. It is the only British zoo to exhibit all four species of the Great Ape, which includes the UK’s only breeding Bonobos. Twycross is also famous for its collection of Chimpanzees, some of which featured in the TV adverts for PG Tips tea.
Twycross does not only have primates but also is home to many other species of animals, some of which are threatened species. These animals include the Amur Leopard, the rarest big cat in the world with only around 30-40 left in the wild. There are also Bactrian Camels, Patagonian Sea Lions, Elephants, Penguins, Birds and Reptiles.
