Monkey World is a monkey and ape sanctuary situated near Wool in Dorset. It was first set up in 1987 by the late Jim Cronin to provide a place of safety for chimpanzees who were abused, mainly by the Spanish beach photographers who smuggled in the baby chimps after killing their parents. Monkey World works with foreign governments to stop the illegal smuggling of wild primates. At the centre the refugees of this illegal trade, as well as those who have suffered abuse or neglect are rehabilitated into natural living groups.
Monkey World is open every day (except Christmas Day) from 10am – 5pm July-August 10am – 6 pm last entry is 1 hour before closing.
