Wells & Walsingham Light Railway
The line, which once formed part of the Great Eastern Railway, is the World’s longest 10¼” gauge railway and is 4 miles long. This unique railway opened in April 1982 and runs between the busy harbour town of Wells-next-to-the-Sea and the pilgrimage village of Walsingham. Here one can see the unique Garratt locomotives the “Norfolk Hero” and the “Norfolk Heroine”, both of which were especially built for this line. The journey which takes you through the beautiful Norfolk countryside takes around 30 minutes. Trains run daily between March and November. Trains are mostly steam-operated; however in some cases diesel is used.
