Leysin is a municipality of the canton of Vaud in the Aigle district of Switzerland. It is first mentioned around 1231-32 as Leissins, in 1352 as Leisins. Located in the Bernese Alps, Leysin is a sunny alpine resort village at the eastern end of Lake Geneva in proximity to Montreux, Lausanne and Geneva. In prior years, Leysin was known for its sanatoriums for tuberculosis; today its spectacular Alpine views across the Rhône Valley towards the Dents du Midi invite year-round mountain sports and recreation. The entire village of Leysin and hamlet of Veyges are designated as part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.
The beautiful ski region with 17 lifts and a snowpark with a halfpipe, and ski tours and snow-shoe treks offer skiers and snowboarders ideal opportunities for enjoyment. And there is also a snow sport school, a lit cross-country skiing trail and toboggan run. Additional challenges for skiers and snowboarders are available in the «Glacier 3000» ski area at the Col du Pillon and Les Diablerets. In the small holiday resort of Les Mosses/La Lécherette a family-friendly ski region and lots of space for cross-country skiers awaits.
Yurt and igloos in the heart of the Alps
After racing down the icy slopes of the toboggan park in Leysin, you arrive in the Snow Village to warm up and to restore your strength. Like the toboggan park, it is open whenever the weather and snow conditions allow. You are welcome to come and enjoy a snack in our yurt. In the evening, if ordered in advance, the nostalgics in the Teepee Village can enjoy delicious salmon prepared Lapland-style, a good raclette melted cheese dish or a wapiti sirloin steak. On comfortable reindeer hides, partake in a unique experience in our igloos while enjoying a cheese fondue.
Prominent in the snowboard and freestyle world, Leysin is famous for its snowpark. Centre stage for important events (Champs open, GiantX Tour,…), the Leysin Park and its multiple technical features will delight all freestyle fans. Located in the ski fields at the foot of the Berneuse, the Leysin Park is meticulously maintained and well equipped. Each year it introduces new obstacles; rails, kicks, gaps, step-ups, step-down and hips. Everything is designed to ensure maximum fun and thrills for the young freestyler. The park is also kitted out with a halfpipe. Prefabricated in the mountainside so as to guarantee thrilling action throughout the whole winter season, this “superpipe” – which is more than 5m high – provides the skilled skier and freestyle snowboarder with an impressive playground. Its 140m length and steep 20° sides make for some spectacular looking twists and turns.
