The height of good taste
In Engadin St. Moritz, there are 34 mountain restaurants situated right next to the pistes, offering a surprisingly wide selection of culinary treats.
Naturally they also serve fondue and alpine macaroni. But now and again, it is worth spending an extended lunch break or even a whole evening delighting in outstanding alpine gastronomy. For the ski areas in the Upper Engadin are also veritable gourmet Meccas. The cuisine on offer ranges from simple home fare, such as that prepared at the cosy Berghaus Fuorcla Surlej, to the market-fresh menus and crisp salad buffet at the Murtèl middle station on the Corvatsch, right through to the superlative Kempinski gourmet dishes served at the Chesa Chantarella.
Berghütte Alpetta: the original. This rustic-style alpine hut has a cosy ambience, but the best thing about it is its landlord, Dorigo. The Upper Engadin “original” serves meat dishes from self-hunted game, polenta from a huge cooking pot, and a selection of choice wines.
Berghaus Diavolezza: the tops. Here, at 3,000 metres (9,843 ft) above sea level, gourmets will find everything their heart desires – creative cuisine, a glass of champagne in the highest-lying Jacuzzi in Europe, magnificent views of the Bernina Massif and even hotel rooms
Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl: the energy-laden. Within the space of just one year, the time-honoured mountain hotel has been transformed into a modern jewel. Not to mention the first plus-energy hotel in the Alps. Here guests can not only recharge their batteries, but save power, too. And feast on culinary delights while drinking in the magnificent view over the lake plateau.
Berghaus Marguns: the varied. On Marguns, three restaurants are united under one roof: the Chadafö makes wood oven-fired pizzas, the Marcho Allegra self-service restaurant offers freshly prepared fast food, and the Stüvetta transports gourmets to culinary heights.
el paradiso: the hip. This restaurant is regarded as the most stylish mountain-hut restaurant south of the Alps, impresses with its varied menu, and besides its distinctive alpine style has a particular penchant for sweet things – here you can find the best cream slices in the world. Utter paradise!
Kuhstall Sils: the primeval. A superb example of how, by means of simple furnishings, a former rustic cow stall can be transformed into a trendy eating place without forfeiting any of its primeval charm. The menu comprises freshly prepared Engadin specialities, served with a generous portion of cordial hospitality
La Marmite: the sophisticated. Mediterranean cuisine with exquisite truffle and caviar specialities: here, at the summit station on the Corviglia at 2,486 metres (8,156 ft) above sea level, haute cuisine is at its peak. Elegant ambience in a spectacular Alpine setting. The new lounge restaurant, De Fät Moonk, is the perfect place to enjoy an aperitif or digesitif. The interior unites traditional Engadin natural materials with modern design – the perfect setting for Mathis’ Contemporary Alpine Cuisine
