To see Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, France and Italy all at the same time – this can be accomplished from the 2,502-meter-high Säntis. The highest mountain of the Alpstein region is the starting point and destination for mountain tours, hikes and ski trips. Säntis (2,502 m) is a mountain in the Alpstein sub-range of the Appenzell Alps in Switzerland. It can be reached by aerial tramway from Schwägalp. The peak is the highest point of the cantons of Appenzell Innerrhoden and Appenzell Ausserrhoden, and is also shared by the Canton of St. Gallen. Säntis was also the name of a canton of the Helvetic Republic.
Säntis is a well-recognised landmark for the Lake Constance (Bodensee) region and can be seen from many miles away. The mountain is also known for its extreme weather conditions. To make the most of the fantastic views from the top there is an aerial cable car, Schwägalp–Säntis, which is one of the most used mountain trains in Switzerland, and at the top is the Panorama Restaurant. Visitors are attracted to the mountain even on foggy winter days as here they will find the mountain sun on Schwägalp and a 360°view of around 2,000 mountain peaks in six countries. A unique, natural spectacle of mountains, sun, clouds or moon, deep shadows and mirror-smooth lakes down below in the valleys.
