The Folgefonn peninsula has been designated a National Park, and was opened in May 2005 by Queen Sonia.Folgefonna is the collective name for the three glaciers in the park, the southern one, Sønde Folgefonni, being the largest, and it is the safest of the glacial plateaus to practise glacier walking and cross-country skiing. The Folgefonn peninsula is an area of outstanding beauty, with mountains , forests and lakes,it is situated between the Hardinger and Sor Fjords, and Bergen is about 150km away.
In the summer the Fjords take on a green tint, this is due to melting ice mixing with sediment and clay from a film of water between the ice and the rocks and flowing into the fjords. The ice cap has long been attracting visitors and the town of Odda has become one of Norways leading tourist attractions. In this area you will be able to go glacier hiking. climbing or skiing. There is a tourist path-Turistvegen- with huts to shelter in,which has been recently restored. This is a place to really see what beauty nature can provide.
