On the banks on the river Oglio, Breno is the Sanctuary of Minerva, a Roman Temple and a place of worship since the iron age. The roman temple was dedicated to the goddess Minerva and consists of a row of rooms and two wings. The main hall holds the statue of Minerva and is from the fifth century.Unfortunately the original statue was beheaded but it is now housed in the National Museum of Valcamonica of Cividate Camuno, however a replica has been placed at the temple which has been open to the public since 2007
West of Trentino and Veneto is Lombardy. Cattle are reared on the plains in the central and southern parts of the region and so meat features more in the dishes here, especially veal, a good example being “Ossobuco alla Milanese”. It is hardly surprising that risotto is one of the main dishes of Lombardy as rice grows so well in this region of Italy and rather than pasta, rice is the staple food of Lombardy. Cheese is also a major part of the cuisine of Lombardy and there are several excellent cheeses produced in the area.
