Sitting on a ridge overlooking the river Oglio, and at 410 metres above sea level is the Pieve of Saint Syrus, a church in the village of Cemmo. Dated from the 11th century the church is reached via a staircase built in the 1930s. The church has had extensive restoration over the years including the entire rebuild of the north wall and the ceiling of the naive. The entrance on thesouth side is extermely elaborate, covered with flowers and carved with symbols. From this church comes the altarpiece of the Master Paroto stored at New York, signed and dated 1447 (or 1444). The large baptismal font inside the church is probably formed from the basin of a Roman or early medieval wine press.
