Piazza Duomo Parma

The Piazza Duomo is where you’ll find the city’s cathedral and the baptistry, both built in the late 12th century. The baptistry was designed by Benedetto Antelami and is constructed from a pink marble called rosso di Verona. The marble appears to change color depending on how the sun hits it. It is one of the most recognized medieval structures in the country. The frescoes inside the building are very moving, as well as the relief sculptures on the interior stone.

Parma Cathedral / Duomo di Parma; Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta is an important Italian Romanesque cathedral. The main feature of the interior is the fresco of Assumption of the Virgin decorating the dome, executed by Correggio in 1526-1530.

The Baptistery of Parma / Battistero di Parma  is considered to be among the most important Medieval monuments in Europe. The outside of pink Verona Marble is octagonal. The inside contains sixteen arches, forming alcoves each containing a painted scene. All these are 13th and 14th century frescoes and paintings. The most striking part of the Baptistery, however, is its painted domed ceiling. Sixteen rays come out of the center of the ceiling, which each correspond to the arches.
