Tremiti Islands Abruzzo Italy

The Tremiti Islands are only accessible by boat from Termoli or Pescara. They include S.Domingo, the largest of the islands, the administrative, historical and religious capital, the island of Capara, the uninhabited Pianosa and some little more than rocks, ‘il Cretaccio’ and ‘la Vecchia’. The waters surrounding the islands, are crystal clear and inviting, and this is a splendid way to spend a day swimming and sun bathing. The islands are a tourist attraction and walking in the area you are able to take in the strange rock formations – Scoglio dell’elefante –
and natural arches – l’Architello. There are also mysterious caves – Grotte delle Viole, Grotte delle Rondinelle, Grotte del Sale, Grotte del Bue Marino the refuge of the monk seal. On S.Domingo you can organise a guided tour of the islands from the diving centres, and take a visit to the fortress.
