Positano on the Amalfi Coast

Positano – the charming town of Positano has a reputation of being one of the most romantic towns of the Amalfi coast, it started life as a poor fishing village but became popular with tourists in the 1950’s. The author John Steinbeck wrote “Positano bites deep”, “It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.” If driving into Positano be aware that the roads are very narrow and the traffic is quite heavy for the size of the place, but the hustle and bustle of trying to pass by oncoming traffic just seems somehow to add to the charm, of which Positano has in abundance. The cluster of pastel coloured houses clinging to the side of the mountains reach rihjt down to the pebbled beaches – Spiaggia Grande and Spiaggia di Fornillo – and the sparkling waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
