This large, oval shaped Piazza, in Rome, is wonderfully impressive with its three fountains along the centre, two of which were designed by Bernini. It is built on the original site of the Stadium of Domitian from the 1st century AD and sits on the open space which was the stadium. The central fountain is the famous Fontanan del Quattro Fiumi – Fountain of the four rivers – built in 1651, which is topped by the obelisk of Domitian. The other two fountains in the Piazza are the Fontana del Moro at the southern end and the fountain of Neptune at the northern end. At the southwest end of the piazza is the ancient ‘speaking’ statue of Pasquino, 1501. Today the Piazza is a lively area with street entertainers and street artists. There are also plenty of street cafés and restaurants with outdoor seating from where you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
