Palazzo Corsini and the Accademia dell’Arcadia, Rome

The Palazzo Corsini is a late Baroque palace built for the Corsini family between 1730 – 1740 and it sits in the Trastevere section of the city of Rome. Today the palace houses some of the offices of the National Academy of Science and the Galleria Corsini. The National Gallery of Antique Art in the Corsini palace is a prominent art museum. The collection of art works were initially gathered together by Cardinal Neri Maria Corsini in the seventeenth century and were added to by later members of the family as well as Pope Clement XII and his grandson. In 1883 the building was sold to the state and the collections were donated to it. It has recently been renovated and restored with original materials to its former splendour. The gallery features works of art from the fourteenth to the eighteenth centuries, with a prevalence of six eighteenth-century authors, ancient and modern sculptures (the latter mostly from the collection Torlonia), bronzes and furniture of the eighteenth century.
