Antico Cafe Greco, Rome, opened in 1760 and stands at 86 Via dei Condotti, near to the Spanish Steps. It is the second oldest bar in Italy, with the oldest being Caffe Florian in Venice (1720). Cafe Greco is a, historic landmark and has retained its Bohemian atmosphere with former customers such as Hans Christian Anderson, Wagner, Henrik Ibsen, Stendhal, Felix Mendelssohn, Levi, Liszt, Mark Twain and Casanova enjoying a cup of coffee here. In a back room stands a piano where Rossini used to play. Here you can soak up the atmosphere and be served by formally attired waiters, enjoy good coffee or a thick creamy hot chocolate with whipped cream and watch modern-day artists sketching away in the corner of the room or a poet busily scribbling on bits of paper. There are many old paintings and sketches adorning the walls, feel free to take photos.
