Maikammer is a beautiful village in the Southern Weinstraße district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the German Wine Route, approx. 5 km south of Neustadt an der Weinstraße.The area is well known for the vineyards of Alsterweiler, Kappellenberg, Kirchenstück, Immengarten and Heiligenberg, which produce Müller-Thurgau and Riesling grapes
Wine has played a significant part in Maikammer’s history, both economically and culturally. Maikammer is also host to numerous Villas built by the original wine families of the area, which now help to attract tourists to the area.Behind magnificent sandstone facades are the homes of local wine growers where you will be able to taste the best they have to offer.In Maikammer you will find traditional hspitality in the taverns, restaurants and hotels. The spire of the church of St.Kosmas and St.Damian from the year 13 hundreds,rises high above the village and inside are wonderful statues, paintings and the ornate baroque altar dating from 1749.
The gentle rolling hillside surrounding Maikammer offers excellent opportunities to explore by bike or hiking through the Palatinate Forest. The trails come across viewing points giving wonderful views over the countryside. The mild climate of the southern Palatinate enable the growing not only of grapes, but also of Kiwi, Figs, Lemons and Sweet Chestnuts.Early Spring is a wonderful time to visit with the almond blossom filling the area with a sea of pale pink.
