The Wine Village of Diedesfeld lies, geographically, at the centre of the 85km long German Wine Road – Deutsche Weinstrasse – and has a wine-making tradition which goes back for 2,000 years.an wine Road. It is one of the nine villages of Neustadt which make up this part of the Germ The village is made up of half timbered houses and sandstone walls, which in the summer months are adorned with flowers cascading from balconies and flowers pots adding splashes of colour in all directions. Set in a quiet square is the 18th century baroque church of St.Remigus which houses a magnificent rococo pulpit and wonderful statues and stained glass windows.
In front of the church stands the Remigiusbrunnen, a fountain, which is 200 years older again, and made out of natural glazed volcanic stone with the statue of the baptism of the Frankish King Clovis, an ancient and well worn set of stone steps leads up at the side of the church. An ancient wine weighing machine also stands in the square in front of the church. Walking along the narrow winding streets will bring you to the largest stone water trough in the Pfalz which is carved from a single piece of stone. The Town Hall of Diedesfeld is 200 years plder than the church of St.Remigus and dates back to 1601.Behind high walls and large wooden gates lie the homes of the wine growers and they offer wine tasting of the large selection of wines in their cellars. Overlooking Diedesfeld is the Castle of Hambach which looks out over the vineyards to the River Rhine and the Black Forest in the distance. The Wine Festival in Diedesfeld is held on the last but one weekend in August and again in October to celebrate the new harvest.
