Tampere Natural History Museum is a natural history museum in Tampere, Finland. It is based in Vapriikki museum. It shows animals of Pirkanmaa region.
Tampere Museum of Natural History opens a window into the nature of Pirkanmaa. The museum provides current information about natural phenomena and diversity of nature and answers to the questions relating to nature. The museum organizes exhibitions and maintains natural science collections containing domestic animals and plants
Tampere Museum of Natural History was first opened in 1961. Before that there were temporary exhibitions of the local nature for the people of Tampere. The oldest parts of the museum´s collections are now more than 150 years old. In 1988 the museum moved to same building with new the Tampere City Library, but was later closed in year 1995. The museum started to look for a new site for it´s exhibitions. The new exhibitions in the Vapriikki Museum Centre opened in December 2010.
