Ten Day Trip to Europe, Day 6

Day 6

After a breakfast fit for a king we make a visit to the Bregenzerwald, the journey is now much quicker and easier than a few years ago as there is a tunnel through the mountain. This area is one of outstanding beauty and is certainly a “must-do” when making a visit to the Vorarlberg region of Austria.

The community around our friends house is made up of old farming houses which have been beautifully renovated and are full of character. Many of the neighbours are artists, sculptors or musicians and each year hold an afternoon of celebrations for their neighbours and their children, we are just lucky that it is today. Its lovely watching the children enjoying the Advent activities put on for them and having a ride on the ponies who are sporting very smart red and white hats.

In the evening we walk into town and wander around the Christmas market held in the square in front of the lovely church of St Martin, a huge Christmas tree reaches up as tall as the church roof and is beautifully decorated as are the wooden chalets. A very cosy and lively Christmas Market, well worth the journey.
