So, it is coming up to the time of year when I start thinking about travelling and visiting Christmas markets in my motorhome. It is something I have been doing for a few years now and I really enjoy. I started with visiting the Christmas Markets in the UK, however my love of travel was not satisfied with the short distances, so I moved on to Belgium. Bruges is an amazing place to visit over Christmas. The market is located all around the town, the main square as an ice ring, and the pubs are cosy with log fires. There is a motorhome area not far from the town plus campsites, however if you are cheeky enough, like me, you can get away with parking in the old town itself. I parked a two minute walk into the square last year, and stayed a couple of days, however if it is possible this year, only time will tell.
Another favourite is the markets along the Rhein, especially Rudesheim am Rhein. This little village, famous for its käthe wohlfahrt shop, cable car number 76 which Elvis was supposed to have been on in the song “Pocketful of Rainbows” and its Christmas Market is a fantastic place to visit over Christmas. The stalls are set around the town and the bars and souvenir shops are open late and offer a large variety of goods. I have been visiting for a few years and each year, they have a different colour Gluhwein mug, which I have been collecting, silly I know, but it reminds me of all the good times I have had there.
This year I am unsure of where to visit. With so many amazing destinations and markets, it is a hard choice. Why not leave me your suggestions and tell me where you will be visiting and your favourite Christmas markets you have visited. Maybe it will inspire others to try it out.
